6/6 - Mushin Coney Island Grand Slam
Mushin had Mike F's charter out for stripers on 6/6 after a week of wind kept us at the dock. Unfortunately for the fleet, striper fishing was tough. Veteran Capt. Jay Andrews pulled out all the stops with the intention of putting them on fish. They snagged bunker closer to our inlet, and chose to run to the North as some boats had them on bait the evening before. That fishing never materialized on Saturday. They trolled many of the usual areas to the North, then moved up to troll between the channels, still with no fish in the box. Capt. Jay went with our usual Mushin Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)..."run as far as you need to in order to find fish!" Working off some intell, he ran to the shadows of the New York bridges and off Coney Island! They caught the end of the tide and put a nice bass and added some blues before that bite fizzled. The highlight was the Coney Island Grand Slam...striped bass, bluefish, and used condom, all on the troll.

Very nice
Is it hard to fillet the Coney Island white fish. What's the "bag" limit on those.

I can't wait to see this board light up with comments about that whitefish! I'll bet there was a lot of friendly "ribbing" going on. Was it caught on a deep diving "
Magnum"? |

Re: 6/6 - Mushin Coney Island Grand Slam
It was caught on our shot gun rod down the middle, on a stretch 25.
Oh yeah the hot or preferred color was blue back over chrome. Sorry no pic of white fish it was released no harm to it |

Did you release the condom? They are protected you know. Was it legal size?

First white fish I've heard of in a wile that was caught. I've heard people marking them but not actually locked up and landing one! Congrats!

Re: 6/6 - Mushin Coney Island Grand Slam
Not too fond about having to handle the ribbed magnum whitefish for a release...not without a glove or boga grip...as far as I know, there is no size limit or bag limit on these yet...BUT from WHAT I'VE HEARD not too good eating (not that I ever tried them) as too rubbery
