Thumbs up Mcr 5/21/15:

Rousted my 20 yr. old son outta bed at 4am !! He really isn't into fishing that much, but with the wife hounding me I never spend any time with my son, it was off we go.
Got to the bait shop and Lori asked me who I had in tow with me today, I said my son. We got into a conversation about how the youth today are just not into fishing. Lori went on to say that even the children of the hard core Polish- Eastern European are not even into the sport. It's depressing when you think about it.
Anyway, got set on the hook on the West wall in about 50 FOW. Bait fishing for me this week has been anything but consistent. You get like one hour when the fish bite and that is it. Maybe others are having better luck but I am finding the fishing very slow this week, very few hits and run offs.
We made the best of what few hits we had. At the late hour of noon we made a run in tight looking for some SMB play but could only scare up a few yellow perch, be damned if I can find a Rainbow trout in that lake.
Been a fun vacation week. Need to expand my horizons more, Landlocks at Tilcon and Aeroflex, fish at Spruce Run and Lake Hopatcong more. Always say I'm going to get a permit for the sheds and never do, Split Rock is calling my name. Won't be long till the dog days set in and I'll be up at Round Valley night fishing.
Have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend, I'll try to get out.

That's really great you still take your son out fishing.
I don't know if I would have gotten into fishing if my father didn't introduce me to fishing in the local duck pond when I was little.

Anglers are a rare breed. There's nine million people living in New Jersey, but little more than 130,000 fishing licenses sold. Even if you consider there's a lot of people without licenses, that's still less than 1-in-50 people.

I would be hesitant to say that the younger generation doesn't fish. I see quite a few young-adults and teenagers fishing.

Maybe they are not seeing younger people in the bait-shop because they are buying their lures and fishing with those.

Not that your son is a kid any more at 20 but I work at a school and most young kids have absolutely zero patients these days along with an attention span only sparked by video games and the like.

Btw, Nice laker and brown!

Nice fish there capt...way to get the boy out there too.

My boys are 23 and 20. Used to take them fishing when they were little...as they grew they fished less and less. Now my 23 year old is getting back into it and really likes to fish and the younger guy will still go with us every once in a while too...especially if there is a free meal involved! We also did a lot of camping and some hiking when they were young and they both still like that too....once you get them into the outdoors it stays with them. May take a little while to come out sometimes but they always have it down in there somewhere. And they always have the memories. It's pretty awesome when you think about it. So keep buggin him every once in a while...it is definitely worth the effort.
