Default Crappies & bass

Hit my usual body of water at sun rise hoping to finally get some crappies to eat. Always threaten "next time I'll keep some and try them!" Hot to my desired spots before the circus arrived. Only some icicles had formed on my feet, think I need a heater on my kayak. First 3 spots produced nothing. So I tried some spots in deeper water and it started happening. Nice 2 lb class crappies! Also got several bass 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 lbs. Only one bad side to the day. Note to self - bring a real stringer! My 10 crappie stringer turned into 1 somewhere in Blackbrook cove! Dam knot came undone. So I let the 1 remaining one go to, oh well. All in all a good half day of fishing. Got to see 2 brave souls that looked like they were fishing in a cement mixing tub with a trolling motor! Funny but not. I know from experience how quick an over capacity Jon boat goes under. Turns your fishing trip into a tackle recovery trip.

.

Good report. It's warming up, but very slowly. The Star ledger posted an article with the the science behind our cold spring:
http://www.nj.com/weather/index.ssf/...art_most-read_

Getting out on the water early to avoid the circus is a great idea, but I just can't get up that early. The teeming hordes of the summer haven't arrived yet and it's already crowded. I see that people are coming all the way from New York fish "our lake".

It's crazy! Can't believe how many guys have invaded the area.I didn't see nearly this may guys last year during the warm months! I was going to go striper fishing in the back of the bay but didn't want my first salt launch to be in 35 degree weather. My buddy is a charter bit captain in the Highlands and has been telling me to get out there for the past week. Either shad or striper tomorrow.

Lurkers. Hundreds of unregistered people read these posts (not your specific post) and flock to the watersheds named. All of us that are frequent contributors need to be extremely wary of what we post i.e. Water body names and pics, in an effort to minimize what xxl highlighted above.

I believe a couple videos posted have brought about the changes. I enjoyed the videos but not the attention. Glad they can't be found on YouTube by searching the name of the body of water.

Yes. I did a face-palm when I saw a couple of well-produced videos posted here. I thought, "ugh...here they come...".

Nice bag of crappies you got there.

As far as spot burning.

I don't know about that. Just because fish was there one day wont mean it will be the other day at the same spot. Also it wont mean they will be able to land fish same as you are.

To me fishing on public waters there is no such thing as your spot. You can have your honey holes but will be greatly mistaken if you think that you are the only one to know about them especially if waters are heavily fished by others.

Having said that, Zach I know where you got those hybrids out.... LoL.
