Smile big "D" report 12/13

Hit the great big river this afternoon from 1 til dark. Day started off promising and it was quite lovely for the most part. Targeted species, WALLEYE!!! Managed to bang 2 shorts on the jig within the first 15 minutes of the trip. they were both short, 1@16, 1@15.5. Had I been in Pa both of those Walleye would've been filleted and released, LOL!!!! After that there was a dead period. I start switching baits and decide to throw on the trusty old Binsky. 2nd cast the lure gets slammed on the first quick jig. Oh yeah buddy, I'm amped! Fish feels nice and heavy especially in the little bit of current I'm fishing in. Fish is digging and diving and doesn't want to come in. I get the specimen close thinking it's a big old river Eye, NOT!!!!!!! Turns out to be a Channel cat, 24 incher around 5lbs. This damn cat thought it was a Walleye, head shaking then making that one last deep dig once it got close to land. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH, It's a fish and I'll take it. Catfish is real lucky I didn't feel like nailing his crazy bottom feeding arse to a tree and skinning em up! After that, the NW wind started swirling around pretty good and no fish were caught. Stuck it out til magic hour but nothing wanted what I was offering. It was a fantastic day to be out. All in all a pleasant day with A couple fish caught. YEA BUDDY!!! TIGHT LINEZ!!!!!!

Not a bad afternoon Eddie!

I tried the Big D from shore for the 1st time since last year 2 weeks ago trying to jig walleye. 1 day I fished afternoon until almost dark and only caught a 13" channel cat. A few days later tried from just before sun up until like 11AM and got a 15" walleye. I was hoping to see a few more but I need to put more time in and figure those prehistoric looking beauties out.

Maybe next year I will bring my newest fishing buddy - so far he seems to love water splashing his feet like crazy in a few streams/lakes this summer.

The Relax Ohio getting it done! Maybe the long/skinny profile will be a hot DR lure?

There's a lot of Walleye in the river and nows the time. Tons of shorts these days. So far all I've got have been short. I think the Flatheads and other bigger predatory species are eating the big Walleye. Anythings possible. Good to see you have a life long fishing partner. Mine just turned 5 and I'll be breaking him in the hard way this winter, ICE FISHING, HAHAHA!!! Little man has a lot of energy, can't wait to get him out there. TIGHT LINEZ!!!

.

Great report.
It must be a nice area to fish after the summer time crowds have left.
