Salmon River: 10/11-10/12 First Time, First Impression and Report
Time for another update.
Please note my computer keeps acting up so I have to update this periodically. That was my FIRST time ever on Salmon River and fishing for Salmon so here is some fish porn for you ton enjoy to start off the thread. My First Salmon ever followed by a nice size brownie. Day One; Madhouse. There is no other way to describe it. No parking and crazy amount of people. I know those who fished there would not be surprised but man I was. We fished from Altmar all the way to Port Ontario and what a day it was. Feeling fish on a line for the first time only to have it get away 10 minutes later was an experience in itself. But as earlier reports fish is not pushing up river just yet. There are small packs that get through but to get them at Altmar they pretty much have to navigate tons of fishing lines and hungry fisherman. I was hooked from the time I hit the water. Everyone was very helpful and patient with me trying to learn especially when by lack of experience I was crossing the lines. It was great to see so many people joined by a common cause come together and work together. Only sad part was garbage that was being left behind so I tried to take as much as I could with me when I was leaving. Day Two: While fishing near Altmar we noticed that fish would not fight aggressively and in some instances was not fighting at all. So on second day we decided to hit up Douglaston Salmon Run. Don't mind paying a fee to get access to fresher fish. Once again a lot of people out in a water but at least I had some space to learn and practice. And not to mention finally land my first one. Boy I think I am still shaking. Not having a net with us had to get him in shallows and use hands to get him out so it made my day. Fish was 16lbs but I did not measure it. My friend landed another one around 25lbs and then couple of trouts. Being Douglaston trouts had to be released so it was done right away. During day we moved back to Altmar and connecting with a trout below on the pic and lots of hook ups but could not get them out. Overall awesome trip. Did not get lots of fish but at least lots of memories. Fell in water couple of times, fell in mudd, pretty much got as dirty as possible. Not to mention the leaky waders ... For all who are still out there. Let your lines be tight and fish be monstrous. Be safe Last edited by Andrushkin33; 10-13-2014 at 01:53 PM.. |
