1/2 day twilight trip point Loma San Diego
I wasn't able to get on a 3/4 day or over nighter due to trips being sold out weeks in advance and limited time! I wasn't expecting much but fishing the left coast is quite different to say the least! We caught a mixture of Cuda, rockfish (there are 40 different species) and a few calico bass mixed in ! Live anchovies fished on a dropper loop with a torpedo weight on the bottom ! Seals swimming around the boat picking up stray achovies and sardines ! Googans galore here saw conventional setups fished like spinners, the hooks are what I found particularly odd with what appeared to be a samon egg type hook ! All trips with this fleet are reserved in advance and a Ca. Licence and a Mexican licence / permit if needed for longer range trips ! The aforementioned 3/4 day trip that I wasn't able to get on is as such; 45 spots 12 mi out yellowfin 20-30# occasional bluefin to 100# with yellow tail mixed in and other species! Next time I guess!

half day boats out here are no different then summer time half day in NJ. Mostly beginners which is what these trips are for. We have had an excellent tuna season.

One other thing i forgot to mention (you freshwater guys will love this) One of the regulars was using an ice rod set up ! and when the Cuda hit the anchovie the drag screamed to a pitch that it hurt my ears! Don`t try this at home you will regret it! Lol
