Fluke 7/30 with Jersey Key

I finally got my trip in after getting blown out last weekend by gusts to 25 kts and 4 to 5 ft seas.

Got a crew together out of the blue Sunday night and was lucky the boat was available today. The ride down was a little brisk in the wide open jeep at 55 degrees but I knew the ride home would be worth it. Three cars with 6 guys from 3 different locations (Bethlehem, Philly, and North Jersey) all pulled in within 3 minutes of each other.

Headed out to the open ocean to fish deeper water rough stuff. There is nothing like running a fast boat wide open on the salt, it's just a fun ride! I was buck tailing while the rest were working a variety of bait. First guy to drop down hooked right up on the first keeper of the day. Got 7 or 8 in the box before the drift just died. Now it became work, and work we did. We kept picking away while the Captain made lots of moves to try and find some movement. Eventually we got about a half kt drift and began to pick up more fish. Ended the day with 17 keepers, some nice seabass, and one lonely ling.

We used a variety of gulp sizes and colors. 4 and 5 in mullet in white, glow, pink, chartruse, and nuclear chicken. Bait wise we used spearing, squid (strips and whole), and bunker strips. Personally I did well on a chartruse bucktail/gulp with a N/C or chart. gulp and bunker strip teaser. All of my fluke came on the teaser. No real monsters were caught, but most fish didn't need measuring, largest was 5 pounds.

Thanks to captain and mate for a great day, I will definitely fish with Jersey Key again!
