![]() Got back yesterday from Hyannis after a two day Nantucket fluke trip. The trip was outstanding. Most people had at least ten keepers a day. There were 6 to 8 fish over ten pounds each day. I had my first ten pounder to the surface and he/she spit the jig while waiting for a gaff. Oh well. Better hook set may have changed the outcome. By the second day we were swinging four and five pound fish.
If you do this trip be prepared for a screaming current. I used fourteen ounces of lead more than half the time and spent an hour or so with twenty ounces. The guys I fished with scored primarily using high/low rigs with either 1/4 oz glow spros or a mylar skirt. We brought with us Peruvian smelts. They worked great. The trip includes a layover in Nantucket and a chance to shower and get dinner. The boat sails for the second day at 4 AM. We did not see another boat fishing. |

![]() Bill - Dad and I enjoyed being with you/Jimmy/Cliff...you guys put on a clinic up in the pulpit
![]() I took a pic of the big fish on the trip caught Day 1 - think it was 12.5 or 13. The white side up fish in the photo is a 2-3lber for comparison sake. Other photo was of a 6# - my big fish of the trip from day 2. And the third photo of me/Dad - getting to spend two days fishing with him creating memories of a lifetime = priceless. Amazing fishery when you're swinging 5 lbers over the rail!! As Capt said, you judge the quality of the trip by the size of the fish you're flipping! Lifting 14 - 20 oz of lead for 2 days straight was a hell of a work out. ![]() See you guys on the Tagged Fish next weekend. Last edited by VinoGuy; 07-15-2014 at 06:56 PM.. |

Congrats on a great trip. That is one of my favorite places to fish as the quality of fish is outstanding. Not much pressure up there. I wish it was closer that 5-6 hr drive home really sucks |

![]() This was some trip....great weather, fishing and friends....it is not often when all three come together.
Like Ytuna and VinoGuy said, ths fishing was great both days. When we threw back 7.0 and 8.0lb Fluke, the mates and some angelers looked at us like were were crazy. The fishing was so good and we had our limit, why not let some of the big girls bite another day. Day 1, a few of us dragged bait in the hopes of a really big fish, and while not the pool winner, a 10.8lb fluke came up. A Chubby guy. Also, Ron Sr., who's personal best was 7.0lbs, had a 10.0 and 11.8lb fish. Ron Jr. had a 9.0lb on the same drift. All quality fish. Ytuna's big fish, I can still see him laying on the surface, was more like 11.0lbs...once it spit the hook, it gave him the "fin" layed there a while and then took off. True to his lack of emotion, Ytuna just puffed and rebaited for the next drift. Day 2 I switched to a high low rig...used while 1oz spro's and just a picece of squid....bouned it 4 or 5 times and the fish jumped on it....evne smaller fish, 3 and 4.0lbs hit hard and put up a good fight. If you go on the 8/2 and 3 trip, the Super Moon will have passed but the current can rip up there....I used 14oz both days. Our other buddy, Flukeslayer, had a 9.5lb fluke on day two....a real beauty and put up a great fight. I think we saw 3 boats in 2 days of fishing....they love their Cod and Rock fish up there....for me, it is worth the drive to be able to catch quality fish and target fish that have some real size.
