Mako Mania on the Jenny Lee
Made our annual Mako Mania Trip with Capt Dave and Kevin on Sat on our go to boat the Jenny Lee. Crew was myself, Mike Sharyispy, longtime friend Keith and tournament regulars Todd, Scott and Paul.
Headed down Friday night , met with Cappy for a few before heading over to the captains meeting to discuss our plan due to the forecast of variable winds 10 or less and how to handle the lack of drift 2 years in a row. Well that conversation was unnecessary. Anyone that was out there Sat knew quickly the Forecast was a JOKE, WTF, how could they screw that up with todays technology. felt bad for the smaller boats that had to turn around and worse for the smaller ones that went out! Anyway Left 5:30 Sat AM and made pretty quick work of getting to the grounds some 45 miles out. Love this boat! We were greeted to East winds 18 Plus (not so great for humans) but made for a good drift in beautiful clean water. Capt Dave and Kevin set the tone with the usual HARD work all day and no expense spared. Primo baits brined for days, 7 buckets of 'magic" chum , great music and a couple of new tricks. 1st life after a few hours turned out to be a small mako and a blue dog. Little later on we got on a better mako which went probably over 100 but not tournament quality so released to live another day. Made a run to try another spot and finished the day with another small Mako on a Bluefish setup but that would be it for us. Capt Dave put us on the right species and both he and Kevin were non stop all day in tough conditions. Crew was great friends, lots of laughs, Todd and Scott did the usual Italian banquet and Mike (as u can see in the pictures) was "Rod Hog" . Well deserved as he stays on deck the entire trip! Again Thanks Capt Dave and Kevin on the Jenny Lee for the hardest working, and professional crew that makes these trips fun and a no brainer every year. You know you are on the right boat when they are more disappointed than you about not making the scales. We will back again next year for the tourneys and this year for TUNA. Congrats to all that placed

Re: Mako Mania on the Jenny Lee
It was definitely snotty inshore but was nothing terrible offshore and I did not feel like it was blowing 18 mph or there. Maybe because I was on a big Boat but it was only like 2 feet waves I thought. Good trip for you guys. We didnt catch a fish all weekend.

Re: Mako Mania on the Jenny Lee
Great pix, report and the usual Jenny Lee effort - top notch. You'll make up for it when you return for Tuna.

Re: Mako Mania on the Jenny Lee
Dave, well said! Dave and Kevin worked it for us in every way and found them. They can't make the big boys bite. Love the fight they (makos) do give you though. Fighting the smaller pup on the light gear was a "treat" ...my thumb still has a little burn from the spool run off...LOL. Great group of guys to fish with, awesome Italian spread, some Soppresato and Smoked Gouda in between breaks...mmmm, mmmm mmmm! Looking forward to the tuna trip this year on the Jenny Lee, great boat, capt and crew!
