Default Where are the bass?

Not a bad afternoon/evening. I took the outboard off the boat and set it up with the intent of going to Merrill Creek. As usually happens, I dilly dallied too long and it was late in the day before I got underway so I just hit the local lake (West Fayson).

I had bought some herring intending to hit Merrill so I figured I'd anchor at Fayson and use them. Before I had my second line in the water I had a 15" brown on. Two hours and four browns later (the biggest 18") I was out of herring and because it was evening by that time I decided to give bass a shot. Nothing doing. Not on a chatterbait, not on a Senko, not on a tube jig, not on a Rapala. Where the heck are the bass? They are usually jumping in the boat this time of year. I hit all of my go to spots and nada. Very strange

The biggest brown was bleeding like a stuck pig so I kept him for the dinner table. First one had a little hole in it's belly. Not sure if it's disease or it was on the bad end of a tussle with a pickerel.

It's weird you say that because I've fished fayson about 8 times this year and had a phenomenal trout year and we usually finish up the day with some bassin and we haven't caught a 2+ and usually this time of year is just crazy with the big ones. No big ones through the ice either..... but nice trout!

Some nice Browns you have in your lake buddy. Bass seem to be everywhere and feeding heavy in my opinion, except of course for your lake. It'll heat up real soon. No worries, they couldn't of all disappeared. Great catch anyway! Beautiful Browns!!!

Same here. Trout have been cooperating, but I've caught maybe 5 bass all spring and nothing over 2 lbs. In previous years 5 was a below average day this time of the year and 3 - 4 lbers were common.

There was a die off last summer after they applied weed killer smack in the middle of a heatwave. 50 some bass were reported floating at the outlet, but I'm beginning to think that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Bass or not, it looks like you had an awesome day out on the water.

Maybe your lures are too small. On rare occasions, I find I have to size-up to select for bass instead of the other fish in the water like perch.

Going too small is definitely never an issue with me. I tend to use pretty big lures for bass because I don't want to catch perch or panfish. Sometimes my problem is that I don't go small enough in certain situations when it may be more productive.
