New Boat Prices
Is it me or are these new boat price totally crazy?? Just saw an article for the new Pursuit OS 385 with triple 300 Yahmies.... Only $530,000
Are you kidding me I love Pursuit boats but there ain't no way, even if I could afford to, I'm spending a half a million bucks on 35 foot boat... They call it a 38 but the last 3 feet is taken up by the molded in swim platform/engine bracket.

Gerry
I had sticker shock as well when I first starting looking a few months ago. With a lot of persistence, just found the boat of my dreams - a new 25' 2014 Contender Tournament edition with twin 200 Yamis....can't wait to bloody her deck Al |

Re: New Boat Prices
The problem now is, what's the alternative? I agree 100% that it's wayyyyy to much money and wayyyy to rich rich for my pockets but a lot (not all) boat manufacturers built little to no boats for the past few years besides your big staple manufacturers. So you either find a good quality early 2000's boat or you buy new (major builders IMHO realize this). Trying to find one of those lightly used low hour boats is basically the proverbial needle in the haystack right now, because most of them have been bought up already. I sell boats, and my inventory aside from a handful of good ones is pretty light for the simple reason that there is nothing to sell. A lot of otherwise good stuff got washed away too. Tough time to buy a boat right now....even tougher to sell one!
BTW, AL congrats with the new boat! Chris (Wally World) told me about it. Beautiful! |

Re: New Boat Prices
I think you got a point South.... Used boat inventory prior to Sandy was bloated and a lot of good deals out there. Once Sandy came along and people who lost their boats got a check, that inventory was depleted, especially the good stuff.
Lucky for us we got our check earlier than most and 2 weeks after the storm we found what we were looking for at a relatively good price. The boat had been sent down to the factory the end of 2012 and had 2 brand new engines and all new gear from transmissions to props. When we took delievery there were only only 40 hours on the engines. Timing is everything I guess.

Re: New Boat Prices
Your right, timing is everything
Your one of the lucky ones! If you were lucky enough to be able to strike fast after the storm, you could get a pretty good even decent buy and allow yourself the winter to customize and work on it. We had quite a flurry once the dust settled after the storm. That stuff is really tough to come by now. Don't get me wrong, there's still deals out there but you have to look for a diamond in the rough. Another thing I've noticed is a lot of the boats I've sold in the past few years have left the state which means we likely don't get them back to sell again. A lot of people along with losing a boat also lost a home or had it damaged so when the boat check came in the mail it got put towards home repairs. The market will come back...I don't think this year or even next, too many things working against it right now if you know what I mean and once it does the market will be flooded with good buys driving the price of new boats down a bit to compete with everyone else.....AT least that's what I'm holding out for! |
