Default The best made plans

I had planned on going to Merrill Creek this Sunday and had my boat loaded with my trolling rods with lead core, planer boards, etc. Being a major procrastinator (if I'm on my own without people to meet) I was still home at noon and decided to stick with the local lake. It's a pretty small lake, 45 deep max and a few hundred yards across, so the idea of using my trolling rods and planer boards never crossed my mind previously. Since they were already in the boat I figured WTF and trolled around for most of the afternoon.

I got a lot of funny looks, because I doubt most people there have even seen planer boards or at least not on Fayson. Did OK though. Not great but I'm thinking that at least one planer board to get the bait away from the noise of the motor may not be a bad idea in the future. Also got a few crappie in addition to these.

Though the idea of reeling in a 14" trout on a medium heavy trolling rod with 30 lb test lead core isn't exactly "sporting" as for as I'm concerned.
One of them I had no idea I even had a fish on until I saw it jump. Give me UL tackle and a trout any day.
