temps got too cold for them? that happened with the snook in florida a few years ago and that's why they are protected now because of a mass die-off from the water temps dropping too low for them to handle

From a Connecticut forum ". . . DEEP official told me. He said that the probable reason for the fish kill was the "shock" of the extreme cold that morning.

So it wasn't necessarily the cold temps alone, but the fact that it got so cold so quick that it put a deadly strain on the fish and it cost them their life. . .
