Default ? SoCal Fishing Info?

Hey all - I am going to southern California for a week and I'll be about an hour from the coast. I found several websites with party boat action, but I figured I would ask all of you to contribute any recommendations so I can get out with some hardcore fishermen on our west coast. Any and all info greatly appreciated in advance.

Thanks,
Mike

For party boats out of San Diego you have mainly three choices.

H&M
Point Loma
Sea Forth

They all kinda do the same thing. Half day will about a mile out to the kelp beds for bass and other small bottom fish. The 3/4 day boats run out to mexican waters and fish for sand bass and similar fish along with a shot at yellowtail. You can rent a rod at the dock before boarding when you pay for the trip and get your CA and/or Mexican fishing licenses. I've fished out of all three places, they're all the same thing, all personal preference. The mates will show you how to rig up with the live baits. Don't freak when you see your first sealion in hail your bait, LOL...

Lived in Huntington beach for half my life and fished all over cali. San Diego has a lot of choices from 1/2 day,3/4 to day and a half and more. You also a long beach which has a lot of party boats and they mostly fish Catalina Island for yellows, calico bass, white sea bass, bonita and sometimes small yellowfins.Which ever you choose you will have a good time.Good luck.

Fished about 7 years ago out of Point Loma and headed in Mexican waters to Coronado Islands for yellow tail. Pacific bluefish without teeth and bigger.

If they mention a GIANT SQUID trip...GO, perhaps one of the most awesome trips I have ever experienced.

Yupp except yellowtail are hard to catch! I'll take bluefish any day over yellowtail, haha.

And yes the squid fishing can be crazy. My family out there goes all the time, problem is what the heck to do with 20-30lb squid! LOL...
