Default Saturday off the Hook

Ditto to what the party boat captains said about today's fluke fishing. Four of us had to work our arms off to catch 8 keepers over a very wide area. It was one here, one there. Ambrose was fishable and was out of the NE wind but only one keeper came up. A late move to SH Channel put us in the fleet with no drift. A move to the sea buoy at the end of the channel put a few keepers in the box and another move to a rough spot out there gave us a few more. The current was not so bad out there but the 3-4 footers had us holding on. The Knoll was a mess in the afternoon and so was the inside markers in SH channel. The SE wind in the PM was cranking. We tried to tuck out of the wind at the mouth of SH Bay and we added a fat 20" fish to our keepers. All of the fluke came on the Gulp dropper and nothing on the jigs. Of note, a school of bunkers was being "blasted" by 3-4 lb. choppers which had the bait spraying like in the spring. I cast a Storm Shad at them and caught 4 or 5 before we had to leave. Casting an AVA produced nothing. That school of fish was still spraying bait out into the SH Channel. It was good to see the bunkers and finally something chasing them.
