Talking Flathead Double-header on the Big D

A few of us went out on wednesday and got skunked and that left a very bad taste in my mouth. I sucked up to my wife all weekend so I could give it another go last night. When I got to the spot there were people everywhere with loud music and jet skis and I didn't have high hopes.

I sat for awhile and eventually everything started to quiet down. I had been sitting for a few hours and the miserable thought of another skunking was creeping into the back of my mind. Then, around 10:30 one of my rods started scream. I gave him some line and waited...when I knew he had it I set the hook. After a brief fight I was so excited to see that I had landed my first Big D flathead, this guy was probably 6-7 lbs. With my heart pounding and getting everything together to take a pic my second rod starts to go off. The line from my first fish was wrapped around this rod so I had to untangle it. The whole time I had a fish on that was pulling drag off my reel. Finally I was able to crank the drag down and set the hook on the second fish. It felt like something pretty big. The second fish gave me a much more spirited fight and took a couple of nice runs ripping drag off before I landed him on the rocks.

I could not believe this fish. When I first saw him I though he was 100 pounds, it turned out he a couple ounces shy of 14 . I did my best to make a video to prove it happened. Then I just had to sit and take it all in.

I do want to say a special thanks to FastEDDIE for taking out some new guys. You can read all the information in the world online but the way you truly learn is to watch someone who knows what they are doing. Even though we didn't catch fish on Wednesday I was watching Eddie and I learned a lot.

Well here is the short video.

He fought like hell. At first he didn't do much and I almost wondered if he hadn't hung me up. Then when he got going it was game on. For a minute there I thought my rod wasn't going to hold up. At the end I was pulling him straight up and he kept trying to sneak into one of those submerged ledges. It's hard to imagine battling a 30 pounder. I think they are in there....

Biggest 1 I heard of being caught was the 26 lber. You never know what can happen on the river. Alot guys keep things hush, hush. Gotta start using 10-12 inch Fallfish for bait. The feed bag is on. WHOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
