Rvr-7/21
Took my not so-little-little-brother on first boat trip to rvr this year....yeah its late july and it's my first trip this year- all i can say is i'm "married with children".
Stopped at Behre's for herring and shiners - a dozen a peice. Got on water at 730am fished til 1030. Got a new Lowrance Xmark 5 (i think that's the model anyways) marked lakers on bottom in 80-110 FOW and rainbows/browns holding around 30-50'. Plan was to drift 3 rods, one weighted for bottom with egg sinker (3/4oz), one medium depth (40') with 3/8oz and one with a single size 4 split shot. First fish hit @ 745 on bottom, a fat 19" laker. Next hit was 15mins later on medium depth - missed - shredded herring. Next drift over same area hit during the drop of the deep pole, fat 18" rainbow. Next Hit on medium depth - missed. Next hit on split shot - 14" brown. Next drift over same area big hit on deep pole, hooked it, felt like a nice laker, had it on for 2 mins, then hook popped out......lost the big one. Next hit on split shot rod was 11'' smallie. Wife called at 1030, so time to pack it in. I took crappy phone pics but i cant find my cell laker and rainbow both became dinner. Both fish had rusted hooks in stomach, so if you hook a fish deep CUT THE LINE-THEY WILL LIVE!!!! Laker was full of grass shrimp. Rainbow was FULL OF CORN! DON'T CHUM WITH CORN THEY CANT DIGEST IT, THE CORN IN THE INTESTINE WAS NO MORE DECOMPOSED THAN IN THE STOMACH. |

Re: Rvr-7/21

Central Jersey On Pequest River, colder than other streams, trout were still angled, and the fishing seemed up and down, said Darrel from xxxxxxx's Sporting Goods in Bxxxx Bxxxk. One angler talked about banking 10 or 12 trout there on Sunday but not catching much on Monday. Darrel fly-rodded six or eight trout on the river on midges on a trip. Walleyes were reportedly yanked from Raritan River, and not many details were heard. Boaters toggled in trout from Round Valley Reservoir at night while fishing deep with worms and chumming with corn, heavily. That may be one reason people are doing it!
