![]() Is there any bait caster reel which allows long distance cast for weightless plastic worm? If you have to choose one baitcaster which allows light lure as well as heavy lure, which would it be?

![]() OK so I'm not the most accomplished baitcaster caster but....I have a a Revo S that I got as a Christmas present on a Bass Pro Shops ****** Blade 7' medium action rod and I can cast just about anything with that with good distance. I really love it....is that sad that I love a reel? A bit pricey I know but it is much better than the BPS Extreme Baitcaster I have. I still cannot get the distance with a plastic worm (even a Senko) or a really light crank bait that I can with a spinning setup but that may just be me. I just keep one spinning setup and one baitcast setup rigged. Baitcaster for most things and the spinning outfit for when I need to throw the thing into the next zip code or for the really light stuff or when the wind is kicking (backlash avoidance!). I also think the 7' (or longer) rod helps with the additional distance thing just as much as the reel selection.

![]() I would think that a spinning reel would be a better tool for casting very low weight lures because spinning reels don't require the spool to spin when the lure is being cast out which would use up the energy that could have gone into creating distance.

![]() Your best bet for throwing weightless plastics with a baitcaster in its stock configuration would be
1. (Toss up) TD Ito 103 or Daiwa PX Type R 2. Daiwa Liberto Pixy 3. Shimano Calcutta Conquest 50 4. Daiwa Steez 5. Abu Revo MGX 6. Shimano core 50 I do understand all of these are expensive for stock reels, but they are undeniably the best available right now for tossing lightweight rigs. Outside of that you would want something Supertuned. This is where the real fun begins if you are inclined to go down that rabbit hole. I throw almost exclusively baitcast setups. My personal favorite hands down is my tuned TD-Ito 103M. It can throw a 4 inch senko a mile. and weightless worms better than any spinning setup I own. Tuning can be fun hobby during down time. As I'm sure you already know, line weight makes an incredible difference as well I use somewhere between 10-25lb braid on all my setups and the PowerePro SuperSlick is the best I've found in terms of castability. If the price tag of these reels turn you off, a great alternative would be to get a nice lightweight reel of your choice and order a set of Boca Bearing orange seal ceramic ABEC 7 spool bearings. Almost all spool bearings are available and easily found on their site by selecting your reel from a list, and can be easily installed with very little trouble. You would not believe the difference they make on a reel and its ability to cast. Welcome to any additional info I can give. Happy Hunting. |

![]() X2 for using a spinning reel. Save bait casters for heavy lures.

Just for comparison, head to head with a 5 inch senko tied on each, same rod, line, and hook the Calais when set up right will easily outcast the Steez. However when sizing down to a 4 inch senko the tides begin to turn in the Steez' favor. |
