Kayak fishing the Rockaway river
I've got time and I'm thinking of fishing the Rockaway river between Denville and the Boonton dam. Anyone ever fished that? I've kayaked it and it's about 6 miles of river with little shoreline access.
What's out there and what do they hit on? Thanks. |

Re: Kayak fishing the Rockaway river
i caught a big largemouth a couple weeks ago on a trout spinner. in the past i've caught smallies, lots of white perch, and a couple pickerel. and of course, its stocked with trout.
i use spinners, and small spoons. small stickbaits are a good choice too; probably work good trolling behind your kayak. theres lots of rocks and snags so be prepared to lose a few lures. i fish from shore, never kayaked. Last edited by Thinman; 05-11-2013 at 07:39 PM.. |

i've got a jon boat and, between my neighbor and i, a bunch of kayaks (we're on the river) could make it an all day thing, float from the jackson ave dam in rockaway borough to the n. main st dam in boonton, stop at denville dog & grill (stewarts) for lunch on the way
