Big Jamaica Striper Report 5_2_13

Putting Howard's report up until he is back with access to a computer....

Today's Striper trip was one of those "we go left, they go right. We go north, they go south!" type of days. We started off in the same area as yesterday without much luck. We eventually decided to head way north where there was action. Two boats from Belmar Inlet also made the decision to leave our local grounds and head for greener (bluer?) pastures up north. By the time we made it up north the fishing had dropped off to a slow pick.

After trying our luck up north, as luck would have it, the fish appeared back down closer to home (should I stay or should I go???)
So we turned around and made the dash for the fish. Fortunately we did run into some fish at the end of the day and after running along most of the northern coast of NJ up towards NY we ended up with a few dozen keepers and some throwbacks. (nothing to sneeze at just not what we could have had)

While the fish at the end certainly saved the day, compared to the past several trips the fish would get the decision for this round of the fight. Some anglers had their limits and there were some nice fish caught but we just did not land in the right spot at the right time today. Fortunately tomorrow is another day and there were plenty of fish caught by boats today so the fishing is still hot, we just hit a cool spell for the day.
Gold crocs and gold jigs have still been hot but a number of boats hit on some colors today as well.
We live to fight another day!
