Default Just wanted to say a quick hello/thanks...

Hi there, all.

I've been doing my very best pike impression on this board since last season - meaning, I've been lurking in the shadows and gobbling up every tasty nugget of information that has floated by.

I originally started visiting while I was doing some research on places to take my 4-year old for his first try at fishing. I've lived in NJ since I was in my teens but believe it or not, had never freshwater fished in NJ. Only real FW fishing I had really ever done was up in New Hampshire for brookies back when I was in my teens.

Anyway, since finding this board, I've taken my son out for a bunch of really cherished moments on the water together that started with him landing a fish on his first cast and continued right through him telling me last week that he thinks we should try to catch 100 fish this year.

It's been a great activity for the two of us - and I've squeezed in time on the banks somewhere in just about every other free minute. Those solo outings have been a bit more of an adventure since I had never fished freshwater for anything other than brookies using worms.

I'll save those stories for other posts but in the meantime, I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who have so generously shared tips and experiences with those of who are far less in the know... I promise to earn my keep by paying in some of my own reports this year.

Here's to a great year of GoodFishin.

Andy, I'm up in Essex (Montclair to be exact) but I tend to roam within about an hour driving radius. Throw a line in anywhere from the Passaic to the R&D to Shepherd's Lake.

I don't know of a lot of productive little ponds or lakes for crappie or sunnies (when with my son) and would love to find a few more of those kinds of spots. Would also love to find a few more still bodies of water with decent shore access to fish for bass...

So, I'll take any and all advice and almost all invitations!

Mike

Welcome to the show!!!!! Nothing is better than spending quality time outdoors with your children. Some of my best memories are of fishing as a kid with my father! Or with my son and daughters (twin seventeen year old girls who love to fish!) How priceless is that???? Great group of people here as you can see. Many of them will go out of their way to help you if they can. Always seems to be new people jumping on board and that continually makes the site bigger and better all the time!!!!!
Best idea Gerry ever had............................................... ...................
