![]() What is the proper way to snag and drop? After you snag a bunker, do you just stop reeling, open the bail and let it swim, drop to bottom?
I've never done it. When we snag a bunker we usually reel it in and live line it back out on a different rod. Thanks GG |

![]() Snag hooks in the gills or stomach tend to do a lot of damage to stripers. So after you land two go back to traditional live lining with circle hooks. It's really easy to go over you limit when you inflict that much damage to each fish caught. Unless you're throwing back dead fish. In that case go ahead have a ball

![]() Agreed, snag and drop with a snag hook is pretty much a kill technique. If you want to release or cull then reel the bunker in and re-hook with a single or circle.

![]() I agree with my fellow anglers, snagging hooks have a high mortality rate. I usually don't fish this way but when I do I make sure that only one hook on the snag has a barb. If you keep the line tight the hook stays in the bunker.
When approaching a pod of bunker, take your time and respect anyone else that might be fishing it. Before casting its usually a "great idea" to take the boat of gear. Use the wind and tide to help get yourself in postion. When the bait is easy to get make sure you fill up your live well. I have seen so many fishermen run out of bait when the pods disappear. For those that are new to fishing this way another "great idea" is to get a helmet and safety glasses so when your buddy's snagging hooks nails you in the head you will be protected. I always wear both and since I am all in to safety, I also have water wings on and a nose pincher in case I fall into the drink. Yes, It's a slow day at Pride Fishing Tackle. |
