Giant BLACK FISH STORITES
Here is mine as posted previously. Looking for those once in a life time tog stories. PB and nothing less kinda stories that keep us all going back for MORE!
THEN it happened...nibble...nibble and a run-away-freight train. Wasn't sure if I was hung on the bottom or hooked up with a whale! Thought he rolled me and then off the bottom and a 140 ft battle. Was fishing a double hook blackfish rig and initially the call on the deck (Mate) was that I snagged him with a hook in the side...NO...the other hook was in the mouth. Lost my sinker on the bottom. Fish was weighed on the boat at ~ 12 lbs and was my PB! Only blackfish bite for me all day, but it only takes one. A fish of a lifetime! Edit/Delete Message |

Re: Giant BLACK FISH STORITES
My report was posted earlier as well. This is my second year with a saltwater boat, and my second year fishing for tog.The first year was def a learning experience, but we are starting to get the hang of it.Im slipped in belmar and would always run way north. We would catch tog, just not any big ones.I went out myself one day much closer to belmar, found a wreck and caught a lot of fish all day long.2 days later went to the same spot with 2 buddies and I caught 4 big ones in a row.a 5lb.,two 9lbs, and a 14lbs.My buddies were going nuts, they were right next to me and were catching, just not any big ones.To say we are hooked on blackfishing would be an understatement.I just pulled the boat before the big freeze hit.

Other trip 2011
Fishing near the bow and a guy nailing one after another. I am no MUGGER, and while unhooking his 4th fish he motioned me to the front of the bow. Two seconds on the bottom and BAM...no nibbling, just BAM and 8lb blackfish Took the front of the line! Landed my limit off that small rock pile! So did the guy who gave the intel. Glory for a while, till a guy, who had not caught a a fish, landed a 10 lb beast , his only fish all day It is what it is |

Re: Giant BLACK FISH STORITES
I think my best tog day was NOT the day I caught my PB of 13 pounds, but the day I had TWO double digits in a couple of hours. first I got a ten, then a 12. One hell of a day!

Re: Giant BLACK FISH STORITES
Doing a Spring trip, set up by Greg V., last April, on The Karen Ann, out of A.C. Using my "Super Fin-S", Bogan rod. We had a nice bite going catching some nice roasters. If you have fished with Captain Adam, you know he doesn't like to use a net. The good Captain has a way of just reaching over and grabbing the leader to lift the fish out of the water, with no commotion at all.
A few hours into the trip and I got that magic thump and run that I was waiting for. The fish took a nice run and tried to dig back to the rocks but I managed to get it moving upwards. Another strong run about halfway up & I knew I had a good fish but no idea how good. As I got the fish near the surface I backed up so that Capt. Adam could move in and grab the leader. Imagine my shock when the good captain straightens up and, very calmly, says, "I'm going to get the net for this one." To me it seemed like it took Captain Adam hours to find the net! But find it he did and As he lifted I got my first look at my big fish! I said before we even got the fish out of the net, "Ok, lets get her weighed and measured so we can get her back in the water quick." When the fish was hanging on the scale, it was bouncing between 14-16 so we all agreed on 15 pounds. A gave her a little hug and splashed her back in with hopes that maybe I will see her again this year! That reminds me, I have to call Captain Adam & confirm that date!
