![]() Looking to take my wife and son ice fishing for a weekend in February. I was thinking of renting a place right on a lake where we could walk out onto the lake. Looking for some suggestions, not looking to break the bank.

![]() Look at the Adirondack guide service. They have a lodge right on the lake.

![]() Used to stay at the Best Western In Ticonderoga and rent a shanty in Port Henry. Haven't been up there since they blew up the bridge. Google ice fishing in Lake Champlain or Lake George.

![]() Some good suggestions here as always.. A lot depends on what you and your family want to target, and your ice experience / equipment.. Some of the bigger lakes like George, Champlain, lake O Bays, etc may offer trophy fish, but can be tough to fish effectively on foot .. more of a hardcore venue.. the 'Dacks lakes are beautiful to icefish, especially if your after trout.. but waterfront rentals may be limited..If easy access, and lots of action are big factors, I would consider the Finger Lakes.. One in particular that may be well suited to your family is Honeoye Lake.. Its the smallest of the fingers, and is LOADED with big panfish, Walleyes, bass, etc.. and its ringed with vacation rental homes.. I've stayed there several times in the spring/summer, but always wanted to get back to icefish.. I've rented waterfront houses that where pretty reasonable through Finger Lakes Premier Properties:
http://www.fingerlakespremierpropert...FQyk4Aodbj8ALw All the Fingers have good fishing.. for just about any species you care to target, but for a safe, easy to access spot that offers lots of action, Honeoye would be my 1st pick.. Best of luck with whatever you decide and have a great trip! |

![]() The problem up state is there is minimal ice as of now. Some coves and smaller ponds and lakes are frozen but reports have been so so on ice.
I know lake george is still open water. |
