![]() Mono line holds less water.
Replace the top guide with a larger diameter loop. Some guys spray the guides with WD-40 ![]() Move to Florida ![]()

![]() Couple of tricks , if your a hardcore winter angler larger guides help, but couPle of tricks diP tip section prior to cast! Other you can " lightly" coat guides with vasline or obtain a pure silicone spray & hit em' with that!
The braid does not absorb water like mono so coating guides as noted will keep em' ice free ! Even if you use mono this will help! |

![]() Chap stick works fine for that. If you are like me you carry it all winter anyway.

![]() Paste type products may work on fly lines , however I never had much success with those type products in cold weather!
They will constrict line flow unless you apply very lightly, leaving only a film on guides, upper guides are really the only ones you need concern yourself with , if butt guides freeze up go home !! |

![]() Oddly enough the old silicone fly line dressing that was shipped with fly line way back in the 50 & 60's works as well today , secret is to apply very sparingly!
Current product Russ Peaks line dressing works very well on both guides & fly lines !! That's what I've used got the last decade! |

![]() thanks all, gonna try the tip swish trick next time and keep some vaseline in my bag. never used any line coating or reel lube that's sprayed directly on as I've felt that would transfer to the water and leave an unappealing slick. reel magic does get good reviews though, what's your opinion?
