Lightbulb Freshwater Fisheries Forum December 1 in Hackettstown

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife will hold its next public forum to discuss freshwater fisheries culture, research, management and recreational angling in New Jersey on Saturday, December 1, at the Hackettstown State Fish Hatchery in Warren County. The forum will begin at 10:00 a.m. Another forum will be held February 23 in Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest in Burlington County.

Anglers are invited to share their views and recommendations for the future of freshwater fisheries research and management in New Jersey with staff biologists. Preliminary results of the recently completed trout angler telephone survey, as well as 2012 field sampling results, will be presented. Anglers are invited to ask questions and comment on any aspect of the division's fisheries management programs. By providing input, the public can help guide the development of all New Jersey's freshwater programs and the regulations which govern them.

Pre-registration is not required but is appreciated, and will help ensure that all attendees can be accommodated. Individuals can pre-register by calling 908-236-2118 or by sending an e-mail to njfwfish@earthlink.net. Be sure to include name, address, phone number and the number of people attending.

Congrats Chaos!!

If I can attend, which I would like to, I would advocate expanding the pike stocking program. So far, it seems to be working. Plus, they're def adaptable to N.J. waters, and there seems to be some popularity in hunting these potential beasts.

One suggestion I would have, start stocking one of the Newark watershed reservoirs. Oak Ridge is the only lake that doesnt get stocked (unless with bass, I'm not sure). And, if the bass purists have a prob with that, why not Echo? Even go for the possibility of some natural tigers? And, an increase in the sale of permits would pay for the added expense.

Another thought would be Monksville? Why not?? Lots of space for serious growth, especially since there no fish in there, lol..............

Ive always thought Hybrid Striped Bass would do great in Monksville. Deep, good water quality, and TONS of forage (herring galore). May try to get up there for this.

Over the past year I've seen some great ideas on this forum for how to improve our freshwater fisheries. I highly encourage everyone who is able to attend. I will definitely be there, pushing for reallocation of the brown trout for the sea-run program, and incorporating triploid trout into the state stocking program.

Andy - Please tell them to make the Forum on a Sunday next time. Too few Saturdays this time of year for those of us who hunt the gun seasons to miss.
