Default Fishing between the storms 7/28

Around noon I headed up to a pond in Sayreville to try for some bass. The past two weekends I had seen lots of shoreline activity with bass corralling little sunnies along the shoreline, so I figured it was a sure bet. Well, I pitched a senko around for about an hour without a tap. Didn't even see any bass. Lots of turtles and cute baby ducks though. In fact, I even saw a turtle catch a sunfish in the shallows and rip its head off. By then the skies were looking angry and I saw the first flash of lightning, so I decided to beat it out of there.

By the time I made it back to my neck of the woods, the rain had stopped, so I decided to try one more spot. I headed down to the ponds in Farmingdale by the Manasquan. My first cast with a slug-go yielded a dink largemouth. After several more casts I decided to check out what was going on in the lower pond. Good thing I did, because right at the inflow pipe I saw a big green football with eyes just chillin' in the current. I flipped the slug-go right next to him, gave it a twitch, and he sucked it right in. After a surprisingly brief fight I landed my biggest bass of the season so far.

I made a few more casts around the lily pads, and only managed one more small bass. Once again the skies got dark and I heard the rumble of thunder in the distance, and decided to head home. The rain started when I got on the highway. Sometimes it pays to dodge raindrops.

Nice fish and glad you dodged those downpours?

We were further south today @ Seaside Heights and ran into some wicked storms. I am home in Somerset and still hear the rumbling now @ 9:40 pm

Was going to take the dog for a walk but someone was too scared and it wasn't me
