![]() Decided to hit up the raritan today after dinner and try for some smallies.Water was a tad high and discolored so i started with old faithful a white mister twister on a 1/8 oz jig head.Picked away at average smallies and rock bass then I took the the one last cast before calling it quits.I got a couple cranks on the reel and my rod doubled over the fish bolted up stream a short distance then turned and took me almost to the spool.I ended up running downstream chasing the fish at least a few blocks.Once i got it on land I realized I foul hooked it the dosal fin I'm not sure what kind of fish it was but it was huge at least 25Lbs,It looks like a carp but with a mouth like striper a huge dosal fin and hump back.after talking to andy I think it mite be grass carp I probably should of killed but didnt.

![]() Nice grassie! They mainly eat vegetation and are stocked in ponds to control weed growth, mostly in golf courses. Usually they are sterilized so they can't reproduce and they don't damage fisheries like the big head Asian carp out in the Midwest. They are very rare in the Raritan. I've been carp fishing that river for years and have only caught 1.
