Default dropped a monster Bow!!!!!!!

well 2 pound test got me again! I stopped by the 'po to fish for 10 minutes on the way home from getting a mothers day gift. I got 3 quick browns and then hooked into a PIG!

Fish came to the top right away and I saw what I had, a rainbow that had to be close to 10 pounds! I loosened the drag and fought the fish for 25 minutes, at times he was at my feet, but I don't fish with a net and I knew he wasn't ready to be grabbed yet. he made 3 big runs whenever I got him close. Finally my buddy, who has been at my shoulder the whole time made a slight move for him, made a tiny splash and the fish turned and broke me off at the hook!

a friend caught an 8 pounder last week, and this fish was bigger than that! another buddy videoed the whole encounter with his iphone. will try and post the fight when I get it. best trout fight I ever had, all for nothing! Boy am I upset that I didn't land it, at least I got several good looks at it and got the fun of fighting a monster.

PS: Attached is a frame pulled from the vid. the rock in the background is big.

I just can't give up the 2# test. I don't know why, I guess I'm stubborn.

This one was a reel heart breaker! I was lookin at this fish 5 feet from me! I truly believe it could have been close to 10 pounds. the biggest rainbow I have ever seen.

I feel I get more hits on the 2#, and I'll deal with whatever I hook. May be time to change strategy, as we all know this is not the first big fish I've lost. If my bud didn't spook the fish at the last minute, I think I would have landed him.

you could bump up to 3 lb test, 3 lb test is usually offered up for ice fishing set ups, jigging rods. Check out whatever website you might purchase from to see if they have 3lb test available!!! Last time i picked up my spools of 3 was up at Franks tackle last year, still have 1 spool left!!!

Hey Shrimpman...keep to the strategy. 2# line for trout is awesome and you can cast the small stuff just fine. There are always those that come unbuttoned, but I'm sure that the world record 2# class (fresh or Salt) is much larger than a 10-15 lb BOW! So it just happens and we have to live with it. #$%@T&**&$%$% Great Post!

Change the line and post when you get em hooked and landed next time

I was thinkin maybe NJ record on 2#, but just checked. NJ doesn't include line test rating for records. The NJ state record bow is 13 pounds, does not tell you what line rating he had. Probably a foreigner with 10 pound test.

anyway, he won the fight so I'll never know, but man it was a big fish. I am still agonizing over it.

going to try and post some video tomorrow.

Two LB is not needed , Inpersonally never use under four , big fish time I step up to 5#!
if your a biat guy then line choice should Fluoro! I use Toray by Blacwater head & shoulders above any other! With 4# I would break my rod before the line. I use nothing but light line taper rods all 6'6" breaking a big fish off with this set is dam near impossible if you tie proper knots!

Lou, I am a bait guy 99% of the time. Do you use 4 pound fluoro leader or the whole spool?

Whole spool, remember most Fluoro carbon lines are a joke i
not manfactured properly . The good ones like Toray are soft & exhibit same qualities
as mono!
Most others can be memory prone !
Always tie minimum 7 turn clinch in lighter lines! If you tie standard five turn not neatly as strong!
