![]() I am from PA...i have my PA boating licence. I was wondering, is that all i need to launch my boat at like keyport, or leonardo to fish the bay? I only have a 15' aluminum with a 15HP motor, so bay is pushing it. I def wont be heading to the ocean. Do i need a NJ boating licence to launch in NJ?
also, you seasoned guys, my boat setup i mentioned, will I be ok in the bay on a calmer day? New to boating, just want to get the boat down for fluke, but I dont know the bay at all, just from taking charter boats, i know near the keansburg pier there is a good spot, ill just have to find it. |

![]() Your PA boating safety cetificate is good in NJ.
Make sure you also have a NJ Saltwater Regisrty fishing license as well. As far as your 15 footer in the bay, you should be OK if it's calm. If not then don't risk it. I would stay relatively close to where you launch too because you never know when the wind is going to change. In the summer months the winds are generally lighter in the morning and begin to pick up in the mid afternoon. Also remember, there are certain areas in the bay like right around the tip of the hook and flase hook that can get choppy even when the rest of the bay is flat. You want to steer clear of those areas. I've seen a lot of small tin rental boats being towed in upside down over the years so be safe.
