I Got A Boat!

Haven’t posted in almost 9 months - but me and two of my buddies I've known since high school went in on a cool little Donzi bow rider together.

We are going to dock it in Barnegat bay at Lavallette for 2 months then in seaside park for two months.

Me and my one friend are newbies but the other guy was raised on boats.

Any hints for a few guys in search of fluke, blues and what have you in the lower portion of the bay?

I hear oyster creek is decent at times.

Anything ever happen around the sage islands or TR Bridge?

Me and my one friend have navigated his dad’s boat around sandy hook for some pretty successful days of fishing, but the Barnegat is new to us.

Not looking for any special secret spots - just general hints regarding spots everybody knows about allready.

for fluke in bays, the best spots are where currents run along ledges in about 20 ft of water. for blues just look for birds working.

Have fun with your boat they are a huge headache but i wouldnt trade my little boat for the world. in the summer i live for chasing down blues and catching fluke

Had my boat in Toms River for many years and ran the bay. Oyster Creek is a good spot, and the channel running out to the inlet can hold some nice fluke drifting back and forth. Meyers Hole can produce some nice fish over near the coast guard station. There are some deeps spots from the BI and south near the BB marker that will produce at times during high tide. Never picked much up near the 37 bridge...good for crabbin though. Learn the channels and you can run North up to Mantoloking bridge area where you can find some fluke grounds in early season. Congrats on the new boat Fried. Hope you get many trouble free years of enjoyment out of it.

Man, it's been a while since I've fished down in that bay.

Good spots as far as I remember were the Meyers hole, oyster creek channel and Barnegat ridge. OCC produced us a bunch of shorts and a couple nice keepers (fluke) But like I said, it's been a couple years since I've fished there and we're (me and my buddies' boat) now docked up in the Highlands. Watch the chop near the area of the lighthouse though and follow every boating safety guideline there is.

Congrats on the boat! It's sure to bring you joy...along with a little grief as all boats do.

Don't overlook the area around the Mantoloking Bridge up to the mouth of the canal in the very northern end of the bay for fluke, bass, winter flounder, weakfish, and other stuff up

You will catch alot more fish if you leave the dock VERY VERY early.Once all the boat traffic starts the fishing gets worse.Try double creek channel for fluke and between the BI and BB buoys for blowfish.They used to get alot of big weakfish along the sod banks.I always see boats drifting along the jettys for stripers.Where double creek channel meets oyster creek channel is a good spot for fluke.Theres also Tices shoal and Meters hole to check out.The manaloking bridge was a good spot for winter flounder as is the area up by where the point pleasant canal comes in for winter flounder.Outside the inlet Look for schools of bunker and birds diving under them you might find stripers and blues.Alot of fluke are caught off the bathing beach off LBI and at the tires at the barneget reef about 3 miles out.If you get out there early youll do just fine good luck.
