![]() The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife invites all interested anglers to attend the annual Trout Stocking Meeting at the Pequest Trout Hatchery on Saturday, February 11 at 10:00 a.m. This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions, voice opinions, and give suggestions regarding the trout stocking program.
Changes for 2012 season will be presented and explained. Additional topics will be results of the 2011 Flatbrook Trout Angler Survey and ideas for an upcoming Trout Telephone Angler Survey. For more details, including a link to directions to the hatchery, visit http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/new...troutmtg12.htm on the division's website. |

![]() I'm really going to make this one.
I think if you have EVER fished for trout in New Jersey you should attend. I've got 2 questions to ask: 1.) Why not try sea run browns in the Raritan river (sorry Mark B.) 2.) Why in gods name are they still stocking lake trout in Merrill Creek !!! |

![]() Hey Andy
I cannot make this but have another question for you to ask: Why the hell are trout stocked in Spooky Brook Park pond in Somerset NJ? While I caught a "Hook a Winner" trout there in 2008, this pond in not maintained and becomes completely choked with weeds by mid to late May. This has gotten progressively worse since that time. By Early June I would guess that all trout the have been stocked there have either become a meal for a LMB or expired due to the extremely shallow water level there and the extensive weed problem that makes fishing there near impossible. These trout should be channeled to more productive waters. I think they only put ~ 250 trout there, I would guess only a small percentage are actually caught before the weed problem there makes fishing impossible. The Fish N Game Dept of NJ should investigate the stocking of similar unproductive waters and cancel these stockings where applicable. |

![]() Here is the way Wilson put it to me.
If they don't stock these so called urban ponds guess what, you'll have 20 guys with surf rods and 2 oz. bank sinkers fishing your honey hole on the Pequest or South Branch, be careful on this one. |

![]() They do stock urban ponds and many places where there is zero chance of holdover to sell licenses, which helps fund the division, and to provide opportunities to the license holders who live nearby and buy a stamp to catch a few trout chips for dinner. In addition all those golden productive waters have maximum carrying capacity. You can put a billion trout in them and it won't significantly increase the number of trout available in July.

![]() My wife just got home from a month in the hospital so no way can I make it to the meeting, but if I could go I'd ask why they don't do something about the cormorant problem. I watched one eat 9 trout at Colonial lake last year before I even got my line wet. I never saw or heard of any fish caught that day at that lake either. Another thing is why do they bother stocking water that is to hot for the trout to live in? The last two years I watched more trout than I could count swimming in the water in the D&R canal for two days then they were all gone. Again I never saw or heard of anyone catching any of these fish. Better to put those trout in local streams where they can be caught all year long as most of the weekend warriors are done by that time of the year anyway.
