Simple line winding. No glove needed!
When winding line, or braid, onto your reel, use a phonebook placed on the floor. If using mono make sure the line comes off over, not under, the filler spool. With braid it doesn't matter as there is no memory to deal with. I have found that a phone book about three inches thick will fit the bill nicely. It keeps enough pressure on the line when placed in the middle. Take your time, try to get it on nice and tight. If using braid on a non level wind reel, you want it tight to the arbor and then criss cross layers so it will pay out nicely when in freespool. Rather than in tightly wound circles right next to each other, which could cause some braids to bind next to it's neighbor, or the braid could dig a couple rows down. Criss cross, is best I found. And, shouldn't cause any problems. Now, doesn't that make your wife happy. Being that she doesn't have to hold your filler spool!
Tip: Knot, then tape your braid to the arbor, so you can avoid slippage, especially when you are taming that beast, first time out, with your new line. You'll be glad you did! |

Re: Simple line winding. No glove needed!
Just got 2 Shimano bait runners I'll give it a shot. Down side is if it works well it will cut down on what I like to think of as quailty time with wife.
