Striper meat in fridge for 5 days, still ok?
Just realized I left some striper meat in the fridge that I meant to freeze from last fridays' trip. Kinda smells like the ocean, if you know what I mean. Is it still ok? Are there signs that's it's no good? I'd REALLY hate to waste this.

i totally agree about wasting it, but after 5 days in the fridge it would be going into the trash. thats just my opinion, others might disagree.

Three days maybe but five days it's garbage. I wouldn't take the chance.

I do want to point out that it never saw ambient temps and it went from the ice pack to the fridge. Now I feel like I've wasted the fish.
It was in a cooler for a day with ice, then the fridge for 4 days as I just realized.... Last edited by ChaosStarter; 05-11-2011 at 10:30 PM.. |

How was it stored? If you filleted and then cleaned in saltwater you may have a chance of not getting sick.

filleted on the boat, stored on ice for a day, and kept in a ziplock bag all together (zipped of course, but together) anyone else before i cry and give it to the garbage man? Last edited by ChaosStarter; 05-11-2011 at 10:45 PM.. |

Smelling it should tell you weather you can eat it or not. There is a difference from smelling a little fishy vs going BAD. If it is no good give Joe Murry (JMurr) a call as I am sure he can put it to good use.
