Thumbs up MCR:

NJDFW stocked over 650 14" Atlantic Landlocked Salmon this week at Merrill Creek Reservoir! The current NJ state record for Atlantic Landlocked Salmon was caught at Merrill Creek Reservoir back in 2021 at 8 lbs, 10 oz

problem is, in NJ guys will be taking them home to eat at that size.. Fresh stocked LL are as stupid as a starving bluegill. They hit anything, and when they wise up they typically follow the schools of alewives in lakes that have them. {I think MCR does}. So after they acclimate, IF they survive, they aren't always that easy to find.. When they ARE around, they are not line shy are very aggressive, and you can catch them on anything.. My biggest a huge 30 incher and big around as a football, was caught on a cheap chartreuse mister twister like you would find in a $12.99 kids Zebco "fishing kit" with toy tackle box, push button reel on cheap rod, and a few cheap lures hooks, and bobbers. They will bite all winter when they come near the surface. It never gets too cold for them, and typically if they aren't hitting at all, they simply are not around, they are deep following bait, same as their big brothers out in the Atlantic.... bob

Love to catch a few but never had a ton of luck at mcr. Beautiful lake to be on I just don’t fish well. Haven’t been in a few years.

Lightbulb Re: MCR:

I gave up going there after all the brown trout disappeared (and stopped stocking) Miss the old brown trout days at both RV and MC. From what the guys are saying is these salmon are reeking havoc on the lake. Everything was stacked in order before they stocked salmon. The lake trout hung together, the bait hung together etc etc, now it's a free for all. The guys are reporting everything is scattered now. Why stock 3,500 rainbow trout in there annually also, another waste IMO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZt2HquSvbA
