Default Trophy Tog Fishing seminar

Episode 90 of the NJ Multi Species Podcast was different. We sat down with Frank Mihalic in "round table" style, and went through his ENTIRE trophy tog fishing seminar.

If you've never been able to go to one of these seminars, it's an extremely in-depth pesentation of important starter information for anyone interedted in getting into tog fishing to target specifically bigger fish.

Episode is available now at the youtube link below and also on spotify. Enjoy.

Very cool episode. Makes me realize how bad I am at togging. I disagreed with probably half the stuff he said . Such a weird fishery. Opinions vary immensely and every technique catches.

I had a custom stick made with a purposely built longer butt section. And I don’t smoke

For sure there is more than one way to skin a cat. Its more of a jumping off point. In most of fishing its also true, you end up modifying a lot of what you first learn to fit your personal style.

While there are many differences in techniques and rod preferences etc .
There are a few things that every good tog fisherman do the same .

Sinker doesn’t get moved a ton of times , find structure and PATIENTLY wait . With slack in the line .

Trigger grips are for sissy’s lol

Rod and reel type will always be a discussion .
IMO it is way easier to back off slightly with a lever drag. And easier to bump it back up if needed . It takes a lot to bump it too far to hit free spool , and star drag fans just aren’t used to that type reel .

Rod choice for me has varied from light 100% graphite rods like a lami triflex 7030 to glass rods like the Madkatz or 1143 Lami .
With probably 2 dozen composites in the middle .

.confidence and repeatability in your gear goes a long way .
