Default PROWLER 5 OCEAN FLUKE REPORT FOR MONDAY SEPTEMBER 9TH REPORT

PROWLER 5 OCEAN FLUKE REPORT FOR MONDAY SEPTEMBER 9TH REPORT- Hey gang, It was a very nice day on the ocean but it was a slow day for keepers, sounded that way from most of the Captains that I talked to on the phone today, anyway Ocean Pete took today's pool with a nice 6 and 1/2 lb fluke. We had 6 total keepers with shorts in the mix for 12 people fishing today. We had to throw some really big sea bass away what a shame. Weather looks great for the rest of the week, back at it tomorrow. See you in the morning. 7:30am to 2:30pm fares $90. Thanks Captain Scott. PS the last 5 pictures are from Wednesday's trip I had a problem uploading them and couldn't get them on to the site

Thanks for the honest report Capt., very appreciated. You're correct, reports from everyone were of a very off day. Six keepers regardless of the weather on a beautiful September day is atrocious and it's a warning sign of the condition this stock is in. Years past September was the month both in terms of quantity and quality of big fish. Those days are gone.

Regulations need to change, spawn needs to be protected and commercial waste and illicit netting has to be addressed or this type season or worse will become the norm. Management has to start managing and stop exploiting the stock with absolutely senseless short term decisions. The entire recreational minimum has to go, targeting only the breeding stock has to stop, spawn needs to be protected for at least three years in order for this stock to have a chance of being rebuilt. If it's business as usual, we'll be under emergency measures soon and then it's too late and believe me when I say we're already at the doorstep of it being too late now.

Six keepers for 12 fares at the peak of the season, I pray for party and charter boat Captains with the regulations your chosen profession has been handicapped with. Everyone should be absolutely pissed off and up in arms about losing a tremendous resource which rightfully belongs to us all being taken away by politicians, bureaucrats and management bodies with self serving interests. It's an absolute disgrace.

As long as decisions continue being made based only on the economics of the fishery and not the health of the stock, one stock after another will continue failing and in a nut shell that's what's happening with summer flounder. Relentless year round pounding with zero protection to the stock's spawn is and has been a recipe for failure. We're harvesting the breeders, killing the juveniles in the process, pounding the stock year round and completely destroying the spawn. How under those conditions does any stock survive. It can't.
