A slow but interesting day on the water.
Left the barn early to calm seas and air temps not to hot. Ran a few miles south down the beach and was greeted by a very active what I think was a Humpback Whale. It was breeching and slapping its tail and flipper. What a show! Finally left and made it to the fishing grounds and started to jig up a bunch of short fluke and sea bass. Not there for more than a half hour and the whale shows up again breeching and putting on a show for us again. Wow! I decided to fish deeper water in hopes to find bigger fish but there was a bad current and 6-8 oz was needed to hold bottom and even then we where scoping! I put on a 8" Gulp grub and hooked into a monster Fluke. Plenty of head shakes and weight but it came unbuttoned half way up. Oh well once again another fish story! All day long we where dealing with a fast drift and current even though there was little wind. Can anyone explain to me what causes this condition to happen to me? I would appreciate it. Anyway it was a fun day but no keepers and some decent short action. I will be at it again soon. Tight lines!
