Default Mixed bag yesterday.

Went out for my first trip of the year . Ran out to a little deeper water. 65 to 125 feet. My catch for the day. 35 Sea Bass, 4 Big Dogs. A really big Winter Flounder, and a 26 inch Cod. The downside is halfway back in the throttle on one engine stopped working. Engine starts and shifts into gear, but the throttle will not advance. Always something. I would love to replace my Controls and Cables, but I can't find anyone I trust to do the work. Even with the technical issues, it was a great day on the water.

I have twin Merc outboards so it wasn't bad. It just took a long time to get back to the marina at 10 knots. Going down today to start taking things apart to determine the problem.

Glad you got out and got some fish... If your engines are newer gas fuel injected inboards, I would check the throttle position sensor, a fairly common issue for newer engines, we replaced them a few times on our Crusader 6.0s and this also happens in Mercury engines and cars.

With ours, the symptoms are a fluctuation of RPMS at running speeds and eventually the engine goes into alarm and the throttle will not respond. Shut it off and start it back up and your fine until it happens again.

Having said this, if you can't physically advance the throttle not your issue and that's likely something mechanical in the cables or controls. If you can advance the throttle but the engine does not respond the throttle the position the sensor could be your issue. The good news if it's the sensor is it's a simple fix you can do yourself and the part is $100. https://youtu.be/ye0CBETxkAo

Good luck!

I found the issue. The throttle advance rod popped out of its holder. I hope the fix was that easy. Now to deal with a very stiff starboard shift lever and a hose replacement on my trim tabs. Then its ready for the market. Reluctantly selling my baby. Open boats in my future

Selling temporarily or retiring from ownership for good? I know they say selling is a boat owners second best day but I can’t see it

Downsizing to a smaller 18 ft boat for mainly freshwater.
