Default Gambler Thursday Striper beat down

We shoved off with a full load at 7:30 to a little rain and fog. Capt. Mike turned the boat North heading to the area that they got them Tuesday. We didn't see much so we turned south. We saw some possible bird action a couple miles down the beach. Capt. Mike ran over a pile on the way there and it was game on. We were in them for a solid hour with many limits. Mike made some short moves with the birds waking up and the fog lifting. We continued to catch for the rest of the day. Often we would have 4 or 5 waiting to be netted. The crew were overwhelmed at times with treble hooks fouling landing nets and getting fish that should have been lifted. Switching to heavier rods and leaders helped as The day progressed and we were in catch and release mode. I change out all the trebles on my jigs so I can release fish easier and not get fouled in the net the rare times I use them. There was a good variety of sizes with the pool fish going 38" . We had nice long drifts with calm conditions. 6" shad tails, ava27/47s, flutter spoons, sand eel jigs, or just about anything you could throw got bit. There were no problems getting both fish today. The fish had Bunker in their stomachs.
There are still plenty of fish around so the Gambler will continue to fish Stripers into the new year as long as they are there. Get them while they are still here.
