Default LBI Surf Report

Got invited down to LBI last week to hit the surf for stripers. My buddy and a friend had 3 fish, 2 shorts 1 keeper the first few days. After Monday we didn't catch a single striper nor did anyone else we spoke to during our time there. Dogfish have totally invaded the area. Couldn't get a chunk out there 5 minutes before a dogfish ate it. Switched gears and threw the kitchen sink of plugs and metal you name it, NADA, was like a dead sea...very disappointed. That being said it was great to be on LBI again as it brought back many memories of my youth. Highly recommend hitting Buckalews Tavern/Restaurant in Beach Haven for dinner/beers if your down that way.

Question Re: LBI Surf Report

I find it really strange how much has changed in 15 years when I first started surf fishing. I remember walking down to the beach and seeing it littered with peanut bunker, haven't seen that in a long time.
What changed, see very few people catching striped bass from the surf anymore. Ran into at least one all out blitz years ago, now the word is never spoken. You could drive roads that paralleled the beach looking for the sky to be black with birds feeding on bait, not anymore.
Glad you got a few, tough fishing bait in the fall with the unrelenting dogfish.

Check out the peanut bunker blitzes over the weekend on Monmouth County beaches.

yes, we have no misconceptions , where there is bait , there is bass, and on LBI this past week there was ZERO bait

some the back bay areas i've hit the last few weeks, including this past Saturday, were insanely STACKED with peanut bunker, spearing, hickory shad and other small unidentifiable baitfish. Once the mass exodus starts the surf fishing out front should be bonkers... some of the largest spearing I've ever see not labeled as Peruvian Smelt lol...
