Default Annual Tribute Trout Trip

In 2016 I lost my father to suicide. Every year on his birthday, January 10th, I go out and trout fish in his honor as that was one of his favorite things to do. He used to call me and give me his yearly “trout count” and loved catching rainbows. This year was a solo trip and I visited 7+ different rivers and dozens of spots from 6am until 4:30pm.

I also got to test out my new trout combo, a St. Croix Trout Seris 6ft UL and a Pflueger President XT. I love the way it feels and really get a good deal of extra casting distance from the length.

I caught a wild brown at the first spot, a beautiful one but not too big. Got him on a white marabou jig, the walmart special. At the last spot of the day I got a holdover rainbow on the last cast of the day.

I know the past year has been a tough one for many people, but please remember suicide is never the answer. Anglers are known to be tough guys, but we need to break the stigma associated with mental health! If you need help, reach out to someone. Tight lines to all, and Rest In Peace to my father Scott!
