Default Pleasant surprise

Took the normal crew out fishing for fluke and sea bass. The drift was slow all weekend so it was a little tough. We got a nice 24 inch fluke and decided to anchor up on one of my shallower bottom fishing spots to get the rest of the sea bass. We caught a bunch of big triggerfish and the captain got high hook on triggers with three and a doubleheader. The next day we went out and caught 4 or 5 keeper fluke and a handful of keeper Seabass. The kid is still reeling before he sets the hook but he’s getting better.

Awesome report. Triggers are a great catch and incredible table fare. Nice mixed catch, you'll be eating well for a while! Good job!

Crazy is that 24" fluke probably weighs almost as much as the 29" Capt. Ron posted the other day at 5 1/2 lbs. I've seen 27" fluke over 10 lbs, never saw a 29" fish at 5 1/2 lbs. That's nuts! Even more strange with the amount of sand eels around this year. Why pictures can always be misleading when it comes to weight.

Glad you had good action with some quality tasting fish.

The triggers were caught in 30 feet of water guys and they are great eating and great fighting fish. They were caught on clams. As of this year we got 3 23-24” fluke, about 2 22”, and quite a lot of 18-19”ers. Everything works as far as color, I think most of that is overrated and bs. I usually find no matter what you have on for gulp they love the meat.
