Default Clamming Success

Over the past 2 weeks, my daughter and I have gone clamming. I went clamming with my Dad when I was a kid and haven't done it since.

My Daughter and I both got our shellfish licenses and headed to try our luck. Let me tell you, it was some of the most fun I've had in a while. I forgot how much fun clamming is and now my daughter is hooked on it. We had a nice haul each trip out and they turned out delicious. Between my license and my daughter's junior license it was only $12.50 between us. An inexpensive day out of the house and in the water. Also, much respect to the men and women who clam for a living, while fun for us, it still is hard work.

We made some grilled clams basted in garlic butter and the sandwich is a Fried Clam Po' Boy sandwich where I breaded the clams in crushed ritz crackers. Delicious!

Another great report and day with your daughter. Great to see! Very clear looking water and clean looking clams. It's hard work but a lot of fun and less expensive than store bought for sure.

Sandwich looks awesome and I'm sure tasted even better. Your daughter sounds like a real adventurous soul, this is how kids were brought up in past and should be brought up today. Get outside, do something together, create memories and teach your children important values like family first, conservation and self dependency. There are no days in our lives better than days like you've recently had with your daughter. Kudos to you both.....awesome stuff!

Thank you for the kind words. And she loves anything outdoors, but mostly fishing, crabbing and now clamming. Her next thing is she wants us to get fishing kayaks to take in the bay.

Great report. I take my 8 yr old son crabbing and love it until I have to clean them lol. And he demands to eat them them the same day lol.

Curious about clamming. Is it ok to ask where and how to do this? Seems like a fun safe day when we are looking for that now with our kids.

Thanks.

We used clam rakes at low tide in Barnega Bay. If you do go make sure you check the latest clam harvest map, some spots are off limits. Good luck!!

Clams are biting in the Manasquan River. They are very difficult to unhook.
