Default Blowfishing

My son and I went up to Montauk for fluke. Very slow day caught two keepers for four guys. Anyway we stopped at Jigging World for stuff and the guy said that the blow fishing in Barnegat has been good. Well my granddaughter came unglued when she found out we were going fishing without her and I thought that a day of blow fishing would be a great way to start her out on my boat. I have never targeted them and have not a clue as to where or how to go about it. Any and all advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

just bottom fish some structure with double bait rigs with fairly small hooks and you'll catch them and porgy and whatever else is there. you can use a chum pot. wouldn't stay more than 15 minutes or so without getting hits.

The best advice I can give you is to go to a bait shop and ask for help. I don't know where you are located but Creekside Outfitters bait and tackle will have all the info and they stock everything you will need for a successful trip.

After you know where to go and have all the supplies needed this is what to do....

Anchor up, sometimes we bridle if the boat is swinging too much.

Drop the chum pot or pots with clam bellies a little up-current.

Bait the hook with a very small piece of salted clam. (you can buy the rigs and then make them yourself later if you desire)

Drop straight down and remove any slack in the line. Making sure the small weight is touching the bottom.

This is where it gets fun. Those little buggers are bait stealers. They can steal your bait without you ever even noticing it. When you feel a light tap do a quick short jerk up and hopefully the fish is hooked. If you don't feel anything after a little bit they probably have your clam in their belly.

Good luck and post a report, and don't forget the pics.

While you are at it bring along a few crab traps. They will catch crabs and blowfish too. And kinda act like chum pots and put a lot of scent in the water...Charlie

Barnegat Bay between the BB and B1 buoys, just off the channel. Rig and chum as Chrisper has noted.

The Rutgers buoy is a local hot spot between the BI & BB buoys.
