Default Tour of Sandy Hook Bay and Tributaries 8/24

Was a beautiful day Saturday, so decided to take advantage of the wind and tide and hit the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers. Launched in Leonardo and motored around the highlands during the end of the outgoing. Worked our way up the Nav to my favorite hole with nothing but a small blue, then hit the same spots on the way back out. Coach Ted and I each got a short fluke on the lumpy bottom riding the strong incoming current at the confluence with the Shrews. That was the first drift through, and when several more resulted in nothing else, we headed out to the hook.

Did a couple drifts past the CG station area and then a little further up by the bug light, still with nothing to show but stolen squid. So we hopped over to the Earle channel, and that put us on a few more shorts and a couple more blues. Got 2 dogfish also as we repeated this drift several times.

The weather conditions were such that the sporadic catches kept us going several hours beyond my usual patience level. Despite no keepers, it was a great day out on the water.

Well at least you got out and did the best you could given the weather.
