![]() Removal of the remnant Burnt Mills Dam on the lower Lamington River by our friends at Raritan Headwaters Association. The project, slated for October of this year, will benefit anadromous fish as more and more obsolete dams are removed in the Raritan watershed. We very much look forward to this removal and the addition of a wetlands pond as well as a bank lowering upstream to allow the river better access to the intact floodplain on the left side of the river on Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) which sets aside valuable floodplains and protects them from development permanently.
So the North Branch will be grey in the fall during fall trout stocking so be forewarned. The Lamington does not get fall stocking. |

![]() Nice, will be interesting to see how the river fixes itself once it goes away.
Far hills region won't be affected by the work tho. |

![]() Woohoo! As i said on your FB post, can't wait to see the outcome. I grew up down the street - my parents used to own the North Branch General Store - and a lot of my family still lives right down the road. I've fished off that dam many times. It was always chock full of redbreast sunfish, and i caught a really nice smallie under the bridge a few years ago!
Going to be awesome to see it restored. |

![]() The removal will be good as a lot of soil erosion is visible.

![]() Pretty section of the Black River (only river I know that changes names like a street). I fished it a few times when I lived in Union back about 15 years ago. Hopefully the stream improvements bring even better fishing.
I always wanted to fish the section that ran through Fiddlers Elbow golf course, used to go to a corporate golf outing there and I'd spend more time looking at the stream then golfing (probably cause I loathe golf). Always saw some good looking fish in there. |

![]() Fiddler's Elbow had the same company do stream restoration on the Lamington near their property, then stocked it with trout and offered fly fishing lessons.
