![]() If your at the Edison Salt water show this weekend, check out the New Berkley Fusion bucktails
Made in weights from 1/8 OZ to 8 OZ. they have both a top eye and a front eye, allowing you to tie for both a vertical as well as a horizontal presentation . one bucktail that allows you to make the bait more lifelike

![]() Read about these after last year’s ICAST.
Have them on my list to pick up a few. Planning on picking up just a few (in different sizes/colors) to start and go from there. |

![]() A quick note about these Fusion bucktails. The sizes on the hooks say 7/0 for 1oz/2oz etc and 5/0 for 3/4 oz. I compared them carefully to other bucktails and noticed that the 7/0 size hook is very close to a standard S+S, Spro jig etc for the same weight jighead with the exception of the shank being just a bit longer on the Fusion bucktails. So I would disregard the sizing listed on the hooks for the Fusion bucktails because at first when I saw 7/0 on a 1 oz lead jig head, I figured I would pass on these bucktails for fluke and use them for stripers locally and snapper/grouper/jacks down south.
After inspecting the Fusion bucktails, Berkley, like other companies, has their own size charting system for what they say represents a 7/0 hook in their brand. I found this to be a smaller gap hook than those normally listed as a 7/0 hook. Imho, more like a 5/0-4/0 say. So, do not be alarmed when you order these off the web, without looking at them physically in a store or at a show, when you notice the 1 oz bucktail comes with a 7/0 hook and the 3/4 oz with a 5/0. They are engineered well for the Northeast and the hook specs listed are just larger than the "normal" hook specs. These bucktails seem good to go. My conclusion: There isn't much of a technical (weights and measures) standard for most of the equipment in the sport of fishing. So, no foul on Berkley's part at all for the 7/0 and 5/0 hook listings! Last edited by Inoffshoremikey; 03-14-2019 at 05:38 PM.. |
