This was my first time on the beach for a prolonged season(July 4th-now) post Sandy. 3-5 days a week. Mantoloking area. Ocean looks dead to me. Very little if any bird activity and didn't see a single fish jump or chase bait etc. Also a total lack of fishermen even trying. I'll be out there til mid Oct and hope to report on catching something other than a cold

The ocean and surf was alive the entire month of July and August. This prolonged easterly blow churned it up real bad, and once things settle, and once we get some westerly winds, things will resume.

There is/was tons of bait in the wash, and there is no reason to believe it will return once the ocean settles. Give it time!

Small blue perhaps large snapper a better description before 10 AM today in Sea Bright. Was using a Hopkins shorty, dressed hook.

Smile Re: surf reports? Bayshore

Bayshore, PM, 9/17. 7 bluefish, 15"-19", 2 stripers, 18"-19", 1 fluke, 14". 1st bass on a Rapala swimming plug, then everything on a 1-oz Kastmaster spoon. Small fish but big enough to be fun on light tackle. Small pods of bait, here and there. Either peanuts or mullet. Tried a plastic shad -- quickly chopped behind the hook.

Caught and released a fluke and snapper yesterday evening with squid on the Manasquan Inlet north jetty. Saw fluke and snappers caught by other fishermen. Spearing were jumping. Ocean was rough and murky on the low tide. > 23 surfers were there.

Fished sunday 1st light at the sandy hook fishing beach.

Crazy bluefish bite from 6:00 -7:00 then it died out -
could've been the sun or the dead low tide that stopped moving

MANY very large mullet schooling in the river by C beach
netted plenty

Nice to hear the mullet are in. They're a great bait, dead or alive.

Caught, tagged and released an 18" fluke that was blind in one eye yesterday evening in Manasquan Inlet with Bogan's Brielle Basin sushi quality cut squid from China on a 2 oz white bucktail.

Red face Re: surf reports: Bayshore, Thursday, 9/20

PM, mid-incoming tide-to-high tide. Cocktail blues feeding on peanut bunker. No blitz -- picked 6 on a 1-oz Kastmaster spoon. After, a short break at high tide, tried the outgoing until about 6:30. Some peanuts were still around, but no hits for me. Tomorrow, the PM wind is forecast to pick up from the S. Not good for the ocean, but should be good on the Bayshore.
