Trout talk ....:
Chief Barno explained the allocations are based on 570,000 baseline number across the ten week program. There is a correction factor built into the allocation formula to make sure that it comes out to 570,000 trout. For the first time that correction factor is over 1. Which mean each waterbody will get a slight increase of trout this year. There are four waterbodies that were dropped from the program, Beaver Brook, South Branch Rockaway Creek, Trout Brook and the Hamilton Fire Pond, which makes more trout available. Columbia Lake will not be stocked this year due to the pending dam removal project which is scheduled to take place in June.
*****R.V.T.A. MEGA STOCKING*****
Next Sunday, March 18th, at 10:00 A.M., there's going to be an exciting event going on at Round Valley. It's our yearly trout stocking, and this one I'm calling
a "MEGA STOCKING". On the menu this year for an appetizer we will be stocking 400 + brown trout!!! Our club has been stocking around 200 brown trout in the last couple of years in an effort to establish a viable fishery. This year we're doubling that amount. Last year we also introduced a program that was called
"Going for the gold". For the first time ever we had stocked over 100 golden rainbow trout in the valley, which brought a lot of excitement to the stocking!! This year will be even better than last! We'll be stocking over 100 Goldens this year, with a mix of fish from small to large goldens. We're not exactly sure how many goldens will be stocked, but it's going to be "Mega" stocking. And finally for the main course, "TROPHY TROUT"!!!
This "Mega" stocking will consist of over 100 trophy trout!!! These beauties will be mostly rainbows, and will be fish from around 4 to 8 lbs!!! There's likely to be some big browns and Goldens in the mix also!!! A big thanks goes out to all the volunteers, for donating their time and money to make this happen. We have one of the best fishing clubs in the state so let's keep it going!
